ServiceM8 vs simPRO: when you have outgrown the small one
The short answer
Most businesses that think they have outgrown ServiceM8 have not. ServiceM8 Premium handles unlimited users and 500 jobs a month for A$149, Premium Plus does 1,500 for A$349, and both include job costing and markup billing. If your pain is "the app is slow" or "we need better reports", that is a plan upgrade, not a platform change.
You have outgrown it when you need multi-stage projects with progress claims and retentions, stock across a warehouse and several vans, purchase orders tied to supplier catalogues, or an Android field crew that needs to do more than see their jobs. Those are simPRO jobs.
simPRO's price is not published. You get it after a sales demo. Third-party estimates disagree with each other by a factor of ten, so we will not print one. Get the quote in writing, including implementation, before you decide anything.
What ServiceM8 looks like at the top end
People compare ServiceM8 Starter to simPRO and conclude ServiceM8 is a toy. Compare the right plans.

A ten-person service business doing 400 jobs a month pays A$149 for everything ServiceM8 sells except the phone add-on. That is A$15 a head. The equivalent on any per-user platform is hundreds a month more. So the question is never "is simPRO better", it is "what does simPRO do that I need and ServiceM8 will not do at any price".
What it actually costs a month
Type your numbers. Prices come from one file we checked on 13 September 2026. One invoice per job is assumed for the Xero row.
Five signs you have actually outgrown ServiceM8
- Your jobs have stages and claims. A fit-out that bills 30% on rough-in, 40% at fix and the rest at completion, with retention held. ServiceM8 does deposits and progress invoices on a job; it is not a project tool with cost centres per stage.
- You hold stock. A warehouse plus van stock, minimum levels, stock moving between locations. ServiceM8 tracks materials on a job, not inventory across the business.
- Purchase orders drive your job costs. You want POs raised against supplier catalogues and matched to supplier invoices so job costing is real, not typed in.
- Your field crew is on Android and needs to quote. ServiceM8 Lite for Android is for staff who "just need the basics" and have no billing role, in ServiceM8's own words. simPRO's mobile app runs on both platforms.
- You have an office team of three or more doing estimating, scheduling and accounts as separate jobs, and they are fighting over one screen.
If you read those five and nodded at three, book the simPRO demo. If you nodded at one, upgrade to Premium and give it six months.
What simPRO is, honestly
simPRO is a field service and project management platform built for businesses from roughly a dozen staff up to hundreds. Its own site pitches it at growing and enterprise trade businesses, and the feature set is the usual mid-market list: estimating with take-offs, project management with stages and claims, inventory, purchase orders, service and maintenance scheduling, timesheets, and a mobile app. We have not run a business on it and this page does not pretend otherwise. What we can tell you is the shape of the deal, because that is what catches people.
- Pricing is by quote. Per user, tailored to team size and modules, after a demo. Nothing is printed on the AU site.
- There is an implementation phase. Reviews across the usual sites consistently describe paid onboarding and training before go-live, and a data migration. The amount is not published. Ask for it as a separate line in the quote.
- It is a commitment. Moving your job history, price lists and customer records into simPRO is weeks of work. Moving back out is the same. Do not do it for a feature you might need next year.
The cost comparison you can actually do
Because simPRO will not publish a price, do this instead. Take your ServiceM8 Premium bill (A$149) and add what the gap is costing you now: the estimator's hours re-typing supplier invoices, the stock you cannot find, the claims you invoiced late. Put a monthly number on that. Then get the simPRO quote with implementation spread over the first year. If the quote is less than the gap, move. If it is more, the gap is cheaper than the fix, and you should tighten your ServiceM8 setup instead.
One more honest number: simPRO does not pay us anything. ServiceM8 pays us 80% of a referred subscriber's first 12 months. That is a reason to be suspicious of this page, so check the logic against your own numbers, not ours.
Who should not move to simPRO
- A service business under about ten staff with no projects and no stock. You will pay for modules you never open and spend a month migrating for no gain.
- Anyone who cannot get the total first-year cost, including implementation and training, in writing.
- Anyone whose real complaint is "we never set ServiceM8 up properly". A ServiceM8 partner will cost you less than a simPRO migration.
Who should not stay on ServiceM8
- A business running multi-stage projects with retentions and claims. You will end up in spreadsheets.
- A business with a warehouse. Stock is not what ServiceM8 does.
- A mixed iPhone and Android crew where the Android staff need to quote, invoice or manage. Lite will not do it.
What to ask simPRO in the demo
- The per-user price for our exact headcount, and what counts as a user.
- The implementation and training cost, and how many hours of our time it needs.
- Which modules are included and which are extra.
- Minimum term and what happens to our data if we leave.
- Whether the Android app does everything the iPhone app does.
